FITNESS

                                                      FITNESS

What does fitness mean to you?

  • In general, fitness means different things to different people. The important message is that embarking on any regular exercise will be of benefit to a person’s health. The more exercise they do, the healthier they will look and feel.

  • What is specific fitness?
    • Specific or task-oriented fitness is a person's ability to perform in a specific activity, such as sports or military service, with a reasonable efficiency. Specific training prepares athletes to perform well in their sport.

    • What are the 3 points of fitness?
      • This is often presented in textbooks as a triangle made up of three points, which represent physical, emotional, and mental fitness. Physical fitness has been shown to have benefits in preventing ill health and assisting recovery from injury or illness.
      • Why is physical fitness important?

        • Maintaining good physical fitness can help prevent some conditions. With exercise, body composition can change without changing weight. Athletes’ hearts show different changes depending on their chosen sport. Muscle strength increases due to fiber hypertrophy and neural changes.

        • What is the difference between physical activity and physical fitness?
          • A frequently cited peer-reviewed research paper from 1985 defined the difference between the terms “physical activity” (bodily movement resulting in energy expenditure), “exercise” (planned and structured physical activity), and “physical fitness.”
          • How is physical fitness achieved?

            • Physical fitness is generally achieved through proper moderate-vigorous , and sufficient rest along with a formal recovery plan. Before the Industrial Revolution, fitness was defined as the capacity to carry out the day's activities without undue fatigue or lethargy.
